FAQ

  • Is acupuncture covered by insurance?
Some health insurance plans may cover acupuncture treatments, but coverage varies. It's recommended to check with your insurance provider to understand your coverage options.
  • Is acupuncture safe?
When performed by a trained and licensed practitioner, acupuncture is considered safe. The use of sterile, disposable needles minimizes the risk of infection. However, it may not be suitable for individuals with certain health conditions or those taking specific medications.
  • What conditions can acupuncture treat?
Acupuncture is commonly used to treat various conditions such as pain management (e.g., back pain, migraines), stress, anxiety, insomnia, digestive issues, allergies, and more. Often whatever condition you would go to a western trained medical doctor for, a doctor of oriental medicine can treat. The main difference is the natural approach to healthcare. Acupuncture can be used in conjunction with other medical treatments.
  • What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body. It helps balance the body's energy flow, or "qi," and promote overall health and wellness.
  • Can children and pregnant women receive acupuncture?
Yes, acupuncture can be used for children and pregnant women and it is highly recommended for both populations
  • How many acupuncture sessions are needed to see results?
The number of sessions required varies depending on the condition being treated, its severity, and the individual's response to acupuncture. Some people experience improvements after just a few sessions, while others may need several sessions over a longer period.
  • How does acupuncture work?
According to traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture works by stimulating specific points on the body to balance the flow of qi and promote the body's natural healing abilities. Modern theories suggest that acupuncture may also stimulate nerves, release endorphins, and affect various physiological processes.
  • What should I expect during an acupuncture session?
During an acupuncture session, the practitioner will first discuss your medical history, conduct exams and discus your concerns. You will then lie down while the practitioner inserts thin needles into specific points on your body. The needles are usually left in place for 15-30 minutes while you relax.
  • How do I find a licensed acupuncture practitioner?
Look for a licensed acupuncturist who has completed a 4 year masters program in Oriental Medicine at minimum and has sat for all of the state required board exams. You can ask for recommendations from your healthcare provider or seek referrals from trusted sources.
  • Is acupuncture painful?
Acupuncture is generally not considered painful. Most people experience only a slight sensation during needle insertion, which is often described as a mild tingling or a dull ache. Sensations vary from person to person.
  • How long does an acupuncture session last?
Acupuncture sessions typically last between 20 minutes to an hour. The duration depends on the condition being treated and the approach of the practitioner.
  • Are there any side effects of acupuncture?
